Vada Pav / Wada Pav

Vada pav or as I call it our very own Indian burger is a popular street food hailing from maharashtrian cuisine. "Vada" refers to potato patties deep fried in chickpea batter and "Pav" or "pao" refers to soft indian bread rolls. Pav is sliced horizontally (but not all the way through). Then, a choice of chutney (green chutney, tamarind chutney or spicy garlic chutney) is spread in the middle and then lastly, Pav is stuffed with the deep fried vadas. Though it started as a street food , it is now being served in many popular restaurants because of its popularity.

INGREDIENTS:

  • Pav (to learn how to make eggless pavs , click here)
  • Batata vadas (to learn how to make batata vadas, click here)
  • Spicy garlic chutney (to learn how to make this chutney, click here)
PROCEDURE:
  • Slice the pav in the center (not all the way through).
  • Spread the chutney.

  • Place the hot batata vada in the center.

  • Serve with a hot cup of tea.

Notes:
  • My family loves the vada pavs with spicy garlic chutney. As an alternative , you can use green chutney and tamarind chutney combo too. Tastes equally good.

  1. Vada Pav is really tempting... whenever I eat an outside vada pav, by 2 bites I am done , as its sooo spicy {yes its a spicy dish} but this homemade is an good idea, as we can adjust spiciness according to our taste buds...Super...

    1. Very good point Jeena. Also to counter the spiciness of spicy chutneys , use sweet tamarind chutney.. Works very well:)
