Mysore Masala dosa

This happens to be Manish's all time favorite dosa. In Columbus (Ohio), where I stay , there is only one authentic south indian restaurant. It is called "UDIFI CAFE"... Amazing food. So whenever  we happen to go there, I keep trying different types of dosas while he stays loyal to his favorite. So thought  why not give it a try at home. All I needed was the recipe for the red chutney that is spread on the dosa. Then one day while watching Khana khazana, I saw Sanjeev kapoor making Mysore Masala dosa. I quickly noted down the ingredients and tried it. It turned out great . I stuck to the recipe of the red chutney just reduced the quantity of garlic and lightly roasted the garlic before grinding it. For those who do not like eating garlic, check out this alternate recipe for the red chutney in Mane Adige. Hope you enjoy this yummy spicy dosa.

Ingredients:
For the Dosa batter recipe, click here
For the Potato sabzi, click here
For the red chutney see below :

  1. Garlic -4 -5big cloves (Original recipe had 7-8, so you can add or subtract depending on your taste)
  2. Dried Red chillies - 5-8 (as per your taste)
  3. Roasted chana dal or Dalia -1/2 cup
  4. Cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp
  5. Lemon juice - 1 tbsp (As an alternative you can use small quantity of tamarind while grinding)
  6. Salt as per taste.
Method:
To make red chutney:
  1. Using 1 tsp of oil lightly roast, garlic, cumin seeds and red chillies.
  2. Then grind them with lemon juice and roasted chana dal in a fine paste using little water.
  3. Add salt and mix well.
To make Mysore Masala dosa:
  1. Pour a laddle of batter on a hot tava (If using iron tava, grease it first. If using non stick tava, pour the batter directly to the hot tava. For more information on making dosa, click here.
  2. Once the dosa is almost cooked, spread 1 tbsp (or as per your need) of red chutney on the dosa.
  3. Now put little  potato sabzi in the center.
  4. Fold the dosa and serve hot with sambar and chutney of your choice. I served mine with pearl onion sambar and cilantro coconut chutney.

  6. South Indian Masala dosa is easy to prepare and its a healthy and diet food. It has a crisp layer of dosa along with the filing of potato vegetable. It's a staple food of South India. But Surprisingly, on the net, I was looking for different style of Dosa, and here I got a clicked to Living Foodz where I have scrolled different varieties of Dosa. It's so easy to prepare and amazingly tasted so good when I tried.
