Lasoon waali Palak dal


This is a simple yet a very delicious dal recipe.Top it with little desi ghee and serve it with hot jeera rice or plain rice. Cooked Dal and spinach is topped with a tempering of onion, ginger, chilli and garlic resulting in a flavorful and delicious dal:)



INGREDIENTS:
Note: All measurements are based on the US measuring cup and spoon sizes where 1 cup = 235 ml
  • Tuvar dal: 1/2cup
  • Chana dal: 1/4 cup
  • Palak (cleaned, washed and chopped) : 4 cups
  • Turmeric powder (haldi) : 1/2 tsp
  • Ghee  : 2 tsp 
  • Onion (chopped) : 1/2 cup
  • Ginger : 1/2 inch finely chopped
  • Garlic : 5-6 big cloves chopped
  • Cumin seeds (jeera) : 1 tsp
  • Green chillies : 2 slit
  • Curry leaves : 4-5 nos
  • Salt as per taste


PROCEDURE:

Heat a pressure cooker. To this add washed dals and chopped spinach. Add 3 cups of water. Close the pressure cooker lid and when the steam starts coming, put the whistle. Now cook it for 3 whistles and then turn off the heat. While the pressure cooker is cooling, heat some ghee in a pan. When the ghee is hot , add the cumin seeds. When it starts to crackle, add the curry leaves. Add the onion, ginger , garlic and green chillies.Saute it until the onions turn translucent. Open the pressure cooker lid and heat the dal. Adjust the consistency as per your liking. Now add the sauteed onion-garlic mixture to the dal and mix well. Add  salt. Bring it to a final boil and then turn off the heat. Serve lasooni palak dal with hot rice.




I served Lasoon waali palak dal with some spicy potato sabzi and rice.
